The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a PhD to the student Ehab Fathi Ayoub for his thesis titled the production of refractoriness from local materials and improve their properties for use in applications with high temperatures "

The researcher dealt in this thesis three different parts, but all share the title one is refractory's. The first part of the letter is the extraction of alumina from the Iraqi kaolin extracted from the site Dweikla in Anbar, Iraq). In this section, the kaolin rocks were crushed and crushed to a volume of less than 325μm and then burned at 650 ° C for 90 minutes Removal of organic matter and crystallized water. After this step, the kaolin powder is reacted with hydrochloric acid for two hours to separate the alumina from the silica. This step is followed by the process of washing the outputs (3-5) times according to the amount of water added each time. Finally the final step involves deposition of aluminum hydroxide which can be thermally converted into alumina. This process has produced aluminum hydroxide with high purity of over 98%.

Based on the principle of cooperation between the University of Technology and government institutions and to achieve the scientific and practical benefit of students, the Production Engineering Branch in the Engineering Department of Production and Minerals organized a scientific visit to the students of the fourth stage to the heavy engineering equipment company located in the refinery of the session. The visit included a tour of the company to introduce the students to the training unit for welders within the training and development department, to identify the specialized welding workshops, and to visit the heavy equipment factory, which includes workshops for the production of tanks of different sizes up to 55 meters in addition to production of pressure equipment and gas filling tanks.

The workshop was visited by the mechanical workshop, which includes metalworking machines of various types, the occupational safety department and the water purification unit in the company.

The Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at the University of Technology held a workshop on "Reviewing and Honoring the Achievements of Quality Assurance Managers and Accreditation Units in the Engineering and Scientific Departments and All Centers" at the Dar Al Salam Hall in the Continuing Education Center. In the presence of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Amin Douai Thamer and his  Deputy of Scientific Affairs, Prof. Alaa Abdul Hassan Attieh and a number of directors of the centers and associates at the University.

The President of the University delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of the activities and activities of quality assurance and its great role in ensuring the outputs of the educational process, adding that quality is very important and an active role in the educational process is the criterion of academic work. Therefore, the University seeks to develop scientific research in all disciplines, As well as the need to spread the scientific side by the Lecturer and stay away from the monopoly of knowledge.

The Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance Assis.prof Maha Abdul Karim Hamoud highlighted the activities and achievements presented by the directors of the divisions and units during the past years, in which they exerted great efforts and distinguished and they have a clear imprint thanks to the continuous guidance from the university presidency.

At the end of the workshop, the President of the University of Technology honored the directors of the people of quality assurance and performance evaluation and a number of officials of the laboratories accreditation units in the Quality Shield in appreciation of their efforts in serving the university. 

The Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology organized a seminar during the cultural season through which the Lecture taught. Bassem Hashim Faraj, a lecture on food contamination of rice and methods of treatment in the presence of the Director of the Center, Dr. Abdul Hamid Mohammed Jawad al-Obeidi and staff of the Center.

Which is the main part of the food meal of the Iraqi individual, and the existence of scientific evidence to prove the presence of rice high pollution of heavy elements, especially arsenic, cadmium , Lead in global markets. We must investigate and find solutions, where these heavy elements are responsible for various cancers and other diseases.
