Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Technology organized a workshop in which Asst.Prof.Dr.Evan Abdul-Zahra and Lect.Dr. Uday Ali, present a lecture on the registration of research sites approved within the global containers as one of the requirements to enter the global classifications.

The lecture highlighted the creation of the four scientific research sites associated with the global repositories, Google Scholar, ORCID, Publons, Researcherid, which is one of the requirements for entering the international classifications.

It has been practically explained to the attendees how to add scientific research in these containers, especially ORCID, which is the main site through which the rest of the research sites are linked with him. The workshop was attended by the scientific assistant to the head of the department and heads of scientific branches and a group of teachers.

Summer Training Unit in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology organized a scientific visit for students of the third phase of the Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining Branch to the headquarters of the General Company for Heavy Engineering Equipment at the headquarters in the Dora area under the supervision of the faculty members.

One of the most important objectives of the scientific visit is to link theoretical study with practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of petroleum industries. On the sidelines of the visit, Deputy Director of Training and Development Department at the General Company for Heavy Engineering Equipment Mr. Waleed Abdul Hussain welcomed the lecturers and students and then the Deputy Director of Heat Exchanges Eng. Necdet explained a field tour in the workshop of manufacturing heat exchangers for double pipe and fixed and mobile pipes, and an explanation of the Engineering Design and Planning Department. The delegation accompanied by the staff  of the training of the company viewed the stages of manufacturing the packaging of pressure vessels and high temperature as well as the outputs of the scientific section where a group of engineers specialized in the company and teaching the department to explain the design stages of heat exchangers and answer all questions of students and the definition of all stages of manufacturing Engineering equipment for the use of gases and liquids for heat exchange, distillation, extraction and absorption, and how to design and manufacture them through a field tour.At the end of the visit, the teachers and students expressed their pleasure and joy with the positive results of the scientific activity carried out by the summer training unit in the department to provide an opportunity to learn about the latest technological developments in the area of specialization directly.

Applied Sciences Department Grants PHD

Applied sciences Department at the University of Technology grants PHD to the student Mohammed Taher for his dissertation "Study the Behavior of Polymer Concrete Using Recycled Aggregates"

The researcher in this work showed that Polymer concrete (PC) can be defined as a composite material in which the aggregates are bonded together in a matrix of polymeric binders. The composite does not contain a hydrated cement paste, and may become Portland cement that has been used as filler within the polymer.

The aim of this current work is to produce composite materials named polymer concrete (PC) and to solve some of the solid waste problems posed by demolition and construction materials.

The physical and mechanical properties of this polymer concrete were investigated. Two types of polymeric resins were used to prepare the polymer concrete including Unsaturated Polyester (UP) and Epoxy (EP). These resins were utilized as a binder instead of Portland cement which used for cement concrete. The weight percentages of resins were changed within (20, 25 and 30) wt. % to manufacture this polymer concrete. Also, polymer blend were prepared within (20, 25 and 30) wt. % which contained (50 wt. %) of polyester and (50 wt. %) of epoxy. Then UP concrete reinforced by (5%) Glass Fiber (GF) and (5%) Silica Fume (SF) was prepared respectively.

For comparing were prepared ordinary Portland cement concrete (PCC) as reference, mixes were made with cement to sand ratios of (1:2), the adopted water to cement (w/c) ratios were (0.35) for reference concrete, then other types of aggregates were mixes in same cement to aggregates ratio within range of water to cement ratio for getting the suitable workability.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.AbdulQader Ismael form Al-Anbar University, Prof.Dr.Widad Hamdi from University of Baghdad and Asst.Prof.Dr.Shihab Ahmed and Asst.Prof.Dr.Wafaa Mahdi as members, Asst.Prof.Dr.Awham Mohammed as supervisor.
