Department of Materials Engineering discusses a doctoral thesis on the preparation of a bioceramic composite scaffold for bone reconstruction

 A PhD thesis was discussed in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology tagged Preparation of a bioceramic composite scaffold for bone regeneration. "Preparation of Ceramic Biocomposite Scaffold for Bone Regeneration" The doctoral thesis of the student Uday Abed Muthtifef included the preparation of porous scaffolds of hydroxyapatite (HAp), bioglass (13-93) (BG) and functionally gradient material (FGM) from both of them using the filtration technique of polyurethane sponge. X-rays of functionally graded samples were enhanced by the chemical compositions of hydroxyapatite and bioglass. The scanning electron microscope showed that all the prepared scaffolds had a highly interconnected porous structure with specific porosity gradients, about 79 ± 2%, 83 ± 2%, 73 ± 2% for the hydroxyapatite scaffolds, bioglass and functionally graded material, respectively. Finally, in vitro biocompatibility results including cytotoxicity were achieved using MTT; The results showed a non-cytotoxic secretion by the scaffolds against the human osteoblastic cell line. The discussion committee consisted of Dr. Emad Saadi Abdel Karim, Chairman and membership of each of the Prof. Dr. Abdel Rahim Kazem Abdel Ali and Prof. Dr. Abdul Ali Mohsen Al-Rubaie and Prof.Dr. Akram Rahim Gabr and Prof. Dr. Hana Arir Smeij, and supervised by Prof.Dr. Saad Badri Hassoun Farid and Prof. Alaa Abdel-Hassan Attia, as well as the scientific evaluation of the thesis by a professor.Dr. Israa Qahtan Sabri from Babylon University, and Prof. Dr. Sadir Mowaffaq Majeed from the University of Technology, and linguistically by Prof.Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi Jaber English Language Center.
