Computer Science Department organizes a workshop on forging official documents for students

  The Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology organized the workshop entitled “Forgery of official documents for students and the resulting penalties,” delivered by the director of the legal unit in the department, L. Amal Abdel-Jabbar, and the legal advisor Miqdad Fadel, in the presence of the head of the Computer Science Department, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and the scientific assistants, Prof. Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlood and the administrator. Assistant Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, and students of the department in the discussion hall in the department building.

The lecture began by defining the crime of forgery, as stipulated in the Iraqi Penal Code, as changing the truth with the intention of defrauding a document or any other document, in any material or moral way, which causes harm to a specific person or the public interest. It is a serious scourge that threatens society, and its harm is not limited to individuals, but also institutions. It varies from one country to another. The greater awareness, the lower the rate of forgery. The legislator also has a role in reducing this crime. The greater penalties, the fewer crimes. The role of departments and institutions in protecting their documents and papers through the use of Barcode and QR.

The two lecturers explained that the basis for forgery is when damage is caused due to bad intentions. The damage is a type of general damage that harms state institutions and specific damage that harms individuals. The workshop also discussed methods of forgery, which are represented by concealing information, forging a seal, forging a signature, or concealing part of the information. The forger of an official document related to state departments is punished with imprisonment. For a period not exceeding fifteen years, the forger of a document pertaining to individuals shall be imprisoned for a period of 3 to 7 years. The forger shall not be punished if he does not use the forged documents or inform the security authorities of this.

The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in appreciation of their efforts to deliver the symposium.
