Lecturer from Civil Engineering Department Participate in MSC Discussion

Asst.Prof.Dr.Ali Majeed, director of quality assurance and university performance at University of Technology, has participated in MSC discussion committee to grant MSC to the student Rand Mahdi from civil engineering department – collage of engineering – Karbalaa University for her thesis "properties of modified open gradient asphalt concrete with sustainable materials"

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.Alaa Hussein/ Al-Nahreen University, and membership of both Asst.Prof.Dr.Ali Majeed/ University of Technology, Lect.Dr.Raed Rahman/ Karbalaa University and Asst.Prof.Dr.Shaker Falih/ Karbalaa University-Collage of Engineering- Civil Engineering Departmnet as a supervisor.

The thesis aimed at studying the effects of using recycled refining materials on the properties of asphalt then effected on the performance of asphalt mixture of 12; 5ml NMAS and asphalt of penetration 40-60. The first step includes determining the unimproved mixture with the optimal asphalt ratio OAC which represented the control mixture in the research CM. Depending on this, the improvement process was completed and final results compared.

The use of refining materials showed an improvement in the physical properties of the asphalt and the use of polyethylene mixture and fly ash achieved the highest change in the properties of asphalt and showed a positive effect on the performance of the mixture with an open gradient, especially the use of polyethylene in the case of permeability, the tensile strength indirectly, the corrosion and the rut depth followed by optimization with a mixture of polyethylene and fly ash.

University of Karbalaa- Collage of Engineering awards a letter of appreciation to Asst.Prof.Dr.Ali Majeed.
