Assc.Prof.Dr. Niven Jamal, Lect.Dr. Ahmed Amed, lect.Aseel Mahmood and Assc.Lect.Sahar Hussein all from Materials engineering department at university of technology and Lect.Dr.Higran ZenAl-Abdeen from product and minerals in cooperation with Dr. Hussein Mohamadi from General Company for Steel Industries and lect.Dr. Mohammed Modafer from Al-Qadesiya University has participated with tow researches in the fourth Iraqi Conference for Oil and Gas which was held on Oil Cultural Center in Basrah. The lecturers have participated with tow researches; the first research is entitled Evaluation of the effect of the external diameter of the oil transport tube on the voltage of cathode protection.

The study deals with covering the outer diameter of the oil transport pipes which were treated with a layer of silica powder and silica ethyl as a bond material and a study of the effect on the cathodic protection current. A theoretical analysis of the required current for cathodic protection was carried out to protect a 10 km long oil pipeline and 6 inch diameter.

The second study is dealing with the effect of low temperature on some properties of the internal coating layer of liquid gas storage containers made of steel. The study examined physical properties such as shrinkage, adhesion strength, thickness of the aluminum powder coating layer and silica sulphate as bonding material. The results showed that the coating was characterized by excellent resistance at low temperatures and was non porous to liquid gases such as propane, methane and nitrogen.
