The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master's degree to Aya Sabah Fakhri for her tagged thesis (Protection of austenitic stainless steel 310 in high temperature applications using ceramic coating).

The research pointed out that the petrochemical fertilizer plant in Basra suffers from the sudden failure of the incinerator heads used to burn nitrogen fertilizers in the cylindrical furnaces that rely on natural gas as a fuel for burning. Incinerators consist of three main parts welded together (head, body and These parts are usually made of different alloys. The head is made of austenitic 310 stainless steel, which is highly sensitive to oxidation at high temperatures. Sulfur is also a problem that threatens this alloy due to the high sulfur content in natural gas and other fossil fuels.

The flame thermal spraying technique is employed to protect the alloy by depositing the MCrAlY alloy on the top of Burned, which has high oxidation and sulfur resistance at high temperatures to prevent sulfur penetration into the alloy.

The results showed that the distance between the flame and the piece had the greatest effect on reducing the oxidation rate, while the thickness of the paint and the oxidation temperature had the lowest effect.

Interference curves indicated that there was a significant overlap between the factors with the medium, especially the powder feeding and coating thickness with the medium, which had a significant effect on reducing the oxidation rate, and the ideal weight gain rate calculated from the calculations was 0.54544 mg and the average weight gain was practical. 0.5367 mg. The difference between the two values was effective and within 95% of confidence.

The results of X-ray examination, scattered energy examination and electronic survey indicated the emergence of multiple phases such as ß-NiAl, NiO, Cr2O3 and Al2O3.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Najm Abd from Al-Nahrain University as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Makarem Hazem Abdul Karim and Prof. Dr. Hanaa Aziz Sameej Members and Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan El-Ghabban, Chief Engineer, Senior Engineer Hussein Mohamed Youssef from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals General Company for Steel Industries Supervisors, Prof. Dr. Iyad Murad Takakh Samir Ali Amin is a linguist who is from the University of Technology.
