The President of University of Technology Prof. Dr. Emad Hussein Marzah Al-Husseini and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative Affairs Ibrahim Abdel Wali inaugurated the annual book fair supporting and enriched of the curriculum (the sixteenth session) in the presence of a number of heads of scientific and engineering departments, which was held in the General Secretariat Hall of the Central Library in cooperation with the Ministry of Education - Directorate General of Curricula - Library Section.

The book fair included thousands of samples of the recent publications titles (books, periodicals , newspapers, dictionaries, encyclopedias and, guides, biographies, educational series, entertaining and fiction stories, legends, myths, folklore, atlases, maps, illustrations, posters, illustrations, pictures, samples of anthropomorphics such as globes and the human body, transparencies, CDs, audio-visual materials ..etc )with enrichment specialties of the curriculum for all levels and stages of school starting from (kindergarten , Primary, Intermediate, Preparatory, Secondary, Teaching organization ).

Al-Husseini praised about the book fair, which witnessed an active presence of the Ministry of Education staff, university staff and teachers, especially as it contains a set of specialized engineering and scientific books to the university because of its effective role in the development of human thought and reading the recent cultural and scientific developments of paper versions as well as the video presentation, which included Scientific specializations .

The director of the library department at the Ministry of Education, M. Haider Najm, said that the book fair included twenty thousand titles of various books in engineering, science, culture, literature, history, art and sports, as well as children's educational stories and books included elements of suspense and excitement, which was held for the sixth time since 2010 at the University of Technology Referring to the interaction and attendance of university and teaching staff in various engineering, scientific, humanitarian and cultural disciplines, he pointed that the ministry includes twenty directors except the province of Kodristan and the functions of each directorate is the selection of the resources currently presented.

It is mention that seventy Iraqi and Arab publishing houses participated in the printing and publishing of scientific , cultural, intellectual and educational output of different subject disciplines.

Graduate student, Zulekha Ali Abdullah optained a master's degree from the Department of Applied Sciences at the University of Technology for her thesis entitled " Preparation of (Al) Metal Matrix Composites Reinforced with Coated Ceramic Particles ", which was held in the hall of the deceased Dr. Abdul Muttalib Ibrahim Sheikh..

The discussion committee consisted of  Prof.Dr. Muzaffar Ali Mohammed as a President and Prof.Dr. Suad Hamed Laibi and Dr. Ahmed Star Jabbar as members and Dr. Mufid Abdul Latif Abdul Jalil as a supervisor.

      This studying included  Metallic coatings which were used to modify the interfacial bonding of SiC particles reinforcement of Al matrix. Electroless deposition method has been used to deposit Ni-3%P coating on SiC particles by using electroless nickel (EN) bath to form core shell. In EN bath of a constant pH 8, the influence of SiC particle size (10, 80µm), agitation method (magnetic stirrer, ultrasonic), bath temperature (50, 60, 70 and 80°C), deposition time (5, 10, and 15 min) on Ni-P coating uniformity were studied. The morphology of the deposit Ni-P was studied by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).

        Electroless nickel results have showed that bath parameters and agitation methods have great influence on coating deposition, best uniform Ni-P deposition was achieved for 80µm SiC particles in 70°C bath temperature for 15 min agitated by magnetic stirrer.

        Best EN conditions were carried on in the process of preparing Ni coated SiC, which were used as reinforcement in aluminum matrix composites (AMCs). The influence of uncoated/ coated SiC reinforcement with different percentages (5, 10, 15, and 20%), sintering processing time (2 and 4h)  and temperature (580 and 620°C), on AMCs mechanical properties (micro hardness, wear resistance, indirect tensile test) and Al-Ni intermetallics examination via X-Ray diffraction (XRD) were studied.

        XRD indicated the formation of few Al-Ni intermetallics phases (AlNi₃, Al₃Ni₂, and AlNi) in AMCs with coated SiC reinforcement after sintering, and the absence of Al₄C₃ formation.

        Mechanical properties for Ni coated SiC/AMCs showed great improvement over those with uncoated reinforcement AMCs and pure Al; those also varied depending on sintering conditions.

        The highest values for hardness and wear resistance were achieved by 20% and 15% coated SiC/AMCs, respectively both at sintering conditions 580°C for 4h. 10% coated SiC/AMCs sintered at 620°C for 2h resulted in the highest tensile strength.

  The University of Technology has held the Second International Conference of Materials Engineering and Science (IConMEAS2019) in the university theater with the participation of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Imad Hussein Marzah Al-Husseini under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the participation of the Iman Center for Research in Australia Prof. Alaa Abdel-Hassan Attia, Prof. Sami Abulnoun Ajeel, Vice President for Administrative Affairs and President of Al-Karkh University Prof. Thamer Abdul Amir Al-Kazemi DONC scientific and engineering departments and a number of faculty, researchers, academics and graduate students and members of the university, which was held at the University Rehab Theater.

The conference began playing the national anthem and the reader Abdul Zaki Mahdi recited a fragrant recitation of the ayah  from holly Koran and then read Al-Fatihah in mercy and respect for the souls of the martyrs.

In a speech, al-Husseini welcomed the participants from foreign, Arab and Iraqi universities, despite the difficult situation that Iraq has gone through, noting that the establishment of this conference, which is one of the main forums to show new developments and research results in the fields of materials engineering and science, which brought together senior researchers, engineers and scientists for discussion In these areas, he added that the entry of the University Thames classification is an indicator of the quality of education in Iraq.

The conference was opened under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdul Hassan Karamallah as Chairman of the lectures session and Dr. Alaa Abdul Hadi Jabr as Rapporteur of the session.

He added that the main objective of ICONMEAS2019 conference is to provide a comprehensive global forum for experts and participants from academia and industry to exchange ideas and present research results, adding that the conference will discuss all topics related in the field of engineering (materials, chemical, mechanical, civil, environmental, oil, petrochemicals, bioengineering and science including chemistry. The physics, geology, life sciences and nanotechnology) concluded by thanking the participants of the conference organizers and sponsoring companies for the support of education, hoping that Baghdad will witness to the attendance welcome and enthusiastic and important.

The Director of the Conference, Omar Sabbar Daham, from the University of Malaysia, welcomed the attendees and welcomed him to the establishment of this international conference, since knowledge has become available and it is necessary to exchange knowledge and ideas and to present and discuss materials.

In conclusion, the President of the University presented shields to the Assistant President of the University of Malaysia Perlis Prof. Oda Hashim and Prof. Ali Hussein Atiwi of the University of Technology and Dr. Harith Al-Athri Associate Dean at the Faculty of Education of the University of Rustaq in the Sultanate of Oman and Prof. Ali Hussain Atiwi honored the winners Dr. Azad Hamid Rashid and Dr. Suad Khalil Fadhli and d. The best three oral presentations for scientific research presented by Dr. Harith al-Athri for both d. Issa al-Soufli / University of Kirkuk Ms. Marwa Jalal Hassan / Baghdad and Ms. adhra Abdul Amir Sadiq / University of Nahrain.
