‎Production Eng. & Metallurgy Dep. discuss a dissertation

Production Eng. & Metallurgy Dep. at UOT discussed a dissertation about:

(Enhancement of wire electrical dicharge machining by using wire electro chemical machining (WECM))

The dissertation presented by the student (Qusay S. Mahdi) of Production Eng. discipline, aimed to remove the thermal effects that are generated from the electric wire cutting process by (WEDM), which is the practical part of this work of sequence terminated process on the same machine using different liquids.

The steel type (O1) used as a workpiece to evaluate its surface integrity, while the copper wire was used as several pieces for both processes.

The (RSM) technique was depended in the design of experiments of two groups, each one contain (20) experiments. The first group experiments’ conducted by using distilled water as an insulating liquid, that is invested to discover the influence of the controlling factors that represented in the current flow time of three levels (20, 24, 28 µs), three-level power failure time (40, 44, 48 µs) and machine head feeding (500,600,700 mm/min) to the outputs of the electric wire cutting process represented by (RLT), (Ra), (HAZ) & (SCD).

The second group experiments’, electrochemical wire cutting process experiments were conducted depending on the best conditions, which were obtained by analyzing (DFA). ) it has been invested the effect of the most important inputs of (WECM & the most important of which is the concentration of the electrolyte liquid at three levels (6, 10, 14 g/l), voltage (4, 8, 12 V) and the gap (0.2, 0.4, 0.6 mm).

The discussion committee consist of:-

  • Dr. Mohsen J. Jowej / Al-Farahidi University / the head.
  • Dr. Shukri H. Ghadeeb /UOT / member.
  • Prof. Dr. Ali H. Kahdim / Baghdad University / member.
  • Prof. Dr. Ali A. Khalif / UOT /member.
  • Prof. Dr.Abbas F. Ibrahim / UOT /member.
  • Prof. Dr. Saad K. Shather / UOT / supervisor.
