Civil Engineering Department at UOT granted Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering to the student (Ahmed S. Abdul-Amir) for his thesis tagged

"Collapse Behavior of Carbonated Collapsible Gypseous Soil Admixtured with Reactive Products"

The aim of this study is to investigate riverine intensity, permeability, amount of dissolved salts, shear strength coefficients and the relationship of load with precipitation using riverine gypsum soil mixed with different percentages of magnesium oxide (0, 5, 10, 15%) and also exposed to carbon dioxide using different carbonation times (0, 1, 3, 24 hours) in addition to using two relative densities (35, 75%).

​This study has been divided into several parts: conventional riverine assays (single-cell adherence assay and dual-cell adherence assay), modified riverine assay, permeability test through soil water flow through an accession cell, permeability test through modified soil flow, Triaxial shear inspection and model checking with syringes.

The student obtained a patent tagged a developed device for measuring the severity of the avalanche, and the silver medal was obtained at the Fourth exhibition of Patent and Industrial Models for the modified avalanche test and its comparison with the traditional one  (unicellular and bicellular accession test).
