Civil Engineering Department Award PHD
The Civil Engineering Department at University of Technology awarded PHD to the student Hussein Hamel who specialized in building materials for his dissertation
"Performance of Modified Asphalt Concrete Pavement Using Nano –Silica" on Sept.14.2020.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.Amjad Hammad and the membership of Prof.Dr. Alaa Abd Hussein, Prof.Dr. Zainab Ahmed, Asst.Prof.Dr. Waleed AbdulRazzaq, Asst.Prof.Dr. Zainab Ibrahim, both Prof.Dr.Hassan Hamodi and Prof.Dr.Mean Salman as members and supervisors.
This study aims at improving the final performance of hot asphalt mixtures by using nanosilika powder and improving the efficiency of mixing circumstances. a side-by-side comparison was made to study the effects of nanosilica powder on the properties of asphalt binder as well as its effectiveness compared with similar substitution of ratios of microsilica powder.
The results of this study indicates that using nanosilica powder and microsilica as an enhancer was useful to improve the physical and rheological properties of the asphalt bond in general, the penetration value was reduced, the fluidity point temperature increased , the viscosity value increased and the temperature sensitivity temperature also improved.
Based on the obtained results, we conclude that asphalt mixtures improved with nanosilica powder were more suitable for road slabs construction in hot climates.
