Civil Engineering Department organize a symposium 

about the Nationally Determined Contributions document for climate change and combating desertification

In joint cooperation with scientific and research institutions and exchanging practical and academic visions and experiences on environmental issues and improving the environment in the region.

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology, in cooperation with the Environmental Research Center, organized an environmental symposium entitled (The Nationally Determined Contributions Document for Climate Change, Combating Desertification, and the Importance of Green Spaces) at Martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis Hall in the Department, attended by the Head of the Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Majeed, and the Director of the Environmental Research Center, Prof. Dr. Zainab Bahaa, the Deputy Director of Baghdad Environment, Engineer Marwa Abdul Karim, the head of the Climate Change Division, Engineer Sarmad Yousif, and a number of professors and students of the department.

It included a brief explanation of the activities and tasks of the Environment Directorate, the most important environmental problems and pollutants that the city of Baghdad suffers from, the causes of climate change and its effects on various aspects, the most important climate agreements, the outcomes of COP28, the National Contributions Document (NDC) in adaptation and mitigation, and Iraq’s trends and procedures for climate change, as well as desertification, its causes, and its negative effects on Man and the environment.
