The Department of Computer Engineering Organizes a Workshop on Obesity in Women: Causes and Best Treatment Methods

The Women's Affairs Unit at the Department of Computer Engineering at the Technological University, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Center, organized a workshop titled "Obesity in Women: Causes and Best Treatment Methods". The workshop was led by Assistant Prof. Dr. Wafa Raji Mohammed and attended by Dr. Noor Abdulkhaleq, Director of the Women's Affairs Unit at the Department of Computer Engineering, along with a number of faculty members and students from the university.

The workshop covered the definition of obesity and its health impacts, methods for measuring body mass index (BMI), as well as the main causes of obesity in women, such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, hormonal imbalances, and pregnancy.

It also highlighted the prevalence of obesity in Iraq, where the rate has increased, according to World Health Organization statistics, from 30% in 2022 to 73% in 2024. The workshop stressed the importance of raising awareness to combat this issue.

The workshop discussed the most common treatment methods, including surgical interventions such as gastric sleeve surgery, despite its negative effects, as well as dietary regimens like the keto diet, presenting both its pros and cons. It emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise, acknowledging the slow effects, but stressing that it is the safest option.

The workshop concluded with the lecturer being honored with a certificate of appreciation for her valuable contribution.
