The lecturer in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology, Dr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Zuhairi, was elected a representative of West Asian countries in the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), which is an accredited member and an evaluator of United Nations documents and publications. Professor Al-Zuhairi specializes in petrochemical engineering.

He received ten votes from twelve voting countries for an electoral period of two years, as the voting was conducted via the United Nations platform.

It is worth noting that UNEP is one of the United Nations agencies specializing in environmental protection, combating desertification, drought, and the effects of climate change.
