Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and with the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, President of the University of Technology, the University of Technology organized a workshop titled "The Times Higher Education University Rankings." The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Khawla Salah Al-Khishan, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, and was attended by heads of scientific and engineering departments, as well as a large number of professors and researchers from Iraqi universities. The event was held at the Hall of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering.
The workshop began with a video presentation from the Times Higher Education (THE) organization, showcasing the scientific progress achieved by Iraqi universities from 2020 to 2025. This included 72 Iraqi universities, with the University of Technology securing the top position.
Professor Dr. Khawla Salah Al-Khishan then provided a detailed presentation on the various types of THE rankings, the key criteria upon which they are based, and the achievements of the University of Technology within this framework, which enabled it to attain the first position among Iraqi universities. She also presented comparative analyses between the University of Technology and other Iraqi universities, highlighting areas of convergence and progress. In addition, the results achieved by Iraqi universities according to the seventeen goals set by THE were discussed, with the ranking of each university under each specific goal.
The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including: improving the quality of scientific research and the academic environment, increasing research output, enhancing international presence by attracting international students, establishing academic partnerships with universities ranked in THE, promoting the university's reputation through media coverage of research outputs, as well as increasing collaboration with the industrial sector and encouraging patents.
