A lecturer obtain a patent

Prof. Dr. Wafaa Mahdi Salih, Materials Engineering Department at UOT obtained a patent from the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control in the Iraqi Ministry of Planning tagged(Using The Luffa Fibers, Chopped Hemp Fibers, and Walnut Shell Nanoparticles for Reinforcement The Prosthetic Socket)

The patent included the manufacture of a superimposed material using vacuum bagging technology, of PMMA with three types of reinforcement with natural materials (0.3%) of walnut nanoparticles, (0.9%) of hemp fibers and (4) layers of fibers. Woven loofah instead of traditional fibers to improve the mechanical properties of the prosthesis, extend its life, and reduce the cost to the patient. Some mechanical and physical examinations were carried out, as well as SEM examinations and bacterial growth examination.

The results showed that the properties of tensile strength, flexural strength, compressive strength, impact strength, and hardness improved when woven fibers were added to the best hybrid samples. As for the physical properties, the density and water absorption capacity of all samples were increased by adding woven fibers to the hybrid nan composites. As for the SEM analysis, it was discovered that the structure of the substrate was homogeneous in morphology, and the results of the bacteria growth test showed that it could not grow on it.
