Civil Eng. Dep. hold an awareness symposium on combating violence against women

Under the UOT President care, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and the supervision of the Head of the Civil Eng. Dep., Prof. Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny, and within the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, the Women’s Empowerment Unit in the department held an awareness symposium entitled (Combating Violence against Women, Legal Reasons and Mechanisms).

The symposium lecture was delivered by Lec. Prof. Basma Khalil Al-Awqati / the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad

It dealt with several pivots, including issues through which women are exposed to domestic violence, or extortion, and finding ways to get rid of these phenomena.

It  touched on the most important treatments that must be taken by woman to get rid of the injustice inflicted on her, and to raise awareness about the oppression that women are exposed to, because violence against women is violent behavior directed towards them and takes several forms, whether moral, physical or economic, which leads to suffering and harm to women, both physically and psychologically, and has serious consequences that are not limited to women only, but also affect the family and society as a whole, due to its serious social and economic effects.

It is worth noting that violence against women does not define a culture, religion, country or social class, but is rather a general phenomenon and a clear violation of human rights.
