Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research reviewed that in term of the confirming of the international academic reputation, committing to the requirements of quality and academic accreditation of institutional and program performance and implementing of the policy and methodology of the independency of university institutions, Higher Education announces that the Iraqi universities succeeded in enhancing their score in the international ranking, as the Universities of Technology, Baghdad, Basrah and Al-Mustansiriyah achieved advanced competitive scores in Times Higher Education World University Rankings edition of 2022 that ranked more than 1,600 universities from 99 countries.

Higher Education added that the University of Technology has advanced more than 200 ranks within the 801 + category in the world after it was ranked in the last year’s edition within the 1000 + category, while the Universities of Baghdad, Basrah and Al-Mustansiriyah obtained advanced scores in the 1201 + category.

Higher Education highlighted that according to the results of Times Higher Education World University Rankings edition of 2022, which indicated the entry of Al-Mustansiriyah University for the first time in the ranking, the data of more than two thousand and one hundred international universities were ranked and the ranking of more than one thousand and six hundred universities from ninety-nine countries.

Higher Education demonstrated that Iraqi public and private universities and colleges achieved top scores and their escalating competition in international rankings, especially Times ranking, in which there are currently four Iraqi universities in it, QS ranking, in which there are five universities in it, Scimago ranking, in which there are twenty-two universities in it, Greenmetric ranking in which sixty-one Iraqi universities in it, and the URAP ranking, in which four Iraqi universities in it, as well as the Webometrics ranking, which scored the attendance in competition of eighty-two Iraqi universities, while the index of scientific research in global publishing websites reviewed that Iraq ranked forty-fifth globally, sixth in the Middle East and third in the Arab world.

It is worth mentioning that Times Higher Education World University Rankings adopts five main scientific criteria for ranking the universities, which are scientific research by 30%, education by 30%, citations by 30%, international outlook by 7.5% and knowledge transfer (return from industry) by 2.5%.
