Computer Science Department  Holds its 3rd  International Scientific Conference

 

Computer Science Dept. at U.O.T. held its 3rd  international scientific conference for computer science in the Hall  of Control and Systems Engineering Dept. , in the presence of the representative of the U.O.T. , Prof. Dr.  Ahmed M. AL Ghaban and the conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Heyder Abed Dhahad / Vice-President for the Scientific Affairs and Prof Dr. Hussein Hamid Karim// Vice-President for the Administrative  Affairs  & Heads of scientific and engineering departments, university teachers and scientific figures from outside the university. The conference will last for two days.

The conference began with playing the national anthem, then reciting verses of the Holy Qur’an and reciting Surat Al-Fatihah  for the martyrs of higher education and Iraq. Prof Dr. Heyder Abed Dhahad said that the conference is being held under difficult circumstances, especially financially , which was an obstacle against holding some conferences at the university.

Head of the Computer Science Dept.  insisted to hold the conference, with the support of the President of the University and Al-Mansour College, helped to hold it on the scheduled date. Adding that we took into account in the conference the sobriety of research and publication in refereed  journals. The university was distinguished among universities  in terms of publishing researches . He indicated that the number of research submitted to the conference were  60 scientific papers, 46 researches were accepted, distributed on the conference topics, and they will be published in Scopus container.

He explained that Computer Science Dept. has become the first Iraqi department to develop a doctoral study in artificial intelligence, which will be started next year 2022-2023.

Head of Computer Science Dept.  Prof. Dr. Alyaa K.  Abdel Hassan, who gave the speech of the preparatory committee, indicated that the conference was held in cooperation with the Iraqi Society for Engineering Management and Noor Al-Ofuq Company.. The preparations for the conference had started from mid-April this year under the conditions of the COVID19 pandemic.

She indicated that the requirements of discreet global publishing and the entry of universities into international rankings added new dimensions to scientific conferences.. The conference provided journals with Scopus containers in 2nd and 3rd  quarters to achieve the requirements of discreet global publishing for graduate students and researchers wishing to obtain scientific promotions. It was agreed with 4 international scientific journals in this regard, according to the specializations of the conference, to publish research, as well as to publish research summaries in the journal of the conference proceedings.

Prof Dr. Alyaa K. Abdulhassan  revealed that the conference was planned to be held in the Sultanate of Oman, but the conditions of COVID 19 and the increase in the number of infections in countries made it impossible to obtain the necessary approvals for residency in Muscat. At the end of her speech, she expressed her thanks and appreciation to the supporting bodies of the conference, Al-Mansour National University College and the Engineering Consulting Bureau at U.O.T.

The Dean of Al-Mansour University College, Prof. Dr. Abdul-Sattar Shaker, described the conference as a scientific occasion and a good opportunity to confirm our continuity of our relationship and cooperation with this university, which extends for more than two decades, whether by holding conferences, seminars or workshops, in addition to scientific sobriety exams and competitive exams. The publication and arbitration of research, the Scientific Promotions Committee, and the membership of the editorial board of Al-Mansour magazine

He said that computer science is a vital science that includes branches of artificial intelligence, information security, computers and information systems. Unfortunately in our country, we have not invested this science in the service of our daily lives and its joints, and we still use a lot of ready-made or unknown free applications, despite the presence of dozens of departments and branches in government universities and eligibility

And he indicated that our country needs libraries, digital repositories, databases, information systems and information networks between institutions, governance, and then working towards digital content. All of these need a national government information policy and participation from the private sector, with our aspiration for the emergence of the Iraqi Programmers Syndicate to have its mark in this field.

Then the conference activities began with the holding of the opening session, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Haider Abed Dhahad, and the rapporteur lect. Dr. Alyaa Al-Barrak, vice president of the Iraqi Society for Engineering Management, and included two lectures The 1st  was delivered by Prof. Nidha l Abdul  Majeed Al-Sayed from the University of Applied Sciences in Jordan was online, entitled Blockchain Technology / A Comprehensive Survey

 2nd  lecture, it was delivered by Dr. Ali Adham, Director General of the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, on the multiplicity of security data.

The conference deals with many topics, including systems software, artificial intelligence, computer security, computer networks, multimedia, computer engineering, information technology, mathematics and computer applications.

The conference aims to identify the issues and common research interests of researchers from different countries and universities, evaluate the applied possibilities of research and benefit from it, and work to consolidate institutional linkage and enhance partnership between the public and private sectors on the one hand, and between the institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the other hand, through consultations and research. Applied scientific research and documenting scientific, cultural, artistic and technical cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research with various authorities and institutions.

The two  Vice Presidents  of the University for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, Head of the Computer Science Dept. and Dean of Al-Mansour College distributed the conference shields to committees, researchers and personalities whom participated  in the conference.
