Chemical Engineering Department at UOT hold a seminar online for postgraduate students

Within the cultural season of the first semester of Chemical Engineering Department, a seminar was held for students of postgraduate (MA) / research stage, for student Baraa Latif, entitled (A new development in electrical spinning technology to produce high-performance nanofibers for an air purification system)

The student showed that the current research addresses the problem of pollution caused by oil activities in the oil and gas sector, especially oil refineries. As the problem of environmental pollution is considered one of the important problems that affect human health, especially the emergence of what is known as particle matters (PM) of various sizes. Therefore, in the current research, an electro-twisting method was used to produce nanofibers for manufacturing air filters in oil refineries. Three types of polymers were used [PAN, PA6, PVA] with different concentrations, the tested conditions [20KV, 20cm, 1ml / hr] and the samples were examined with SEM, FTIR, XRD, and EDX tests.

And the student Murtada Sabah entitled (Study of converting waste into energy: thermal decomposition of plastic into fuel)

The student explained that the research aims to convert plastic waste into fuel that can be used as an alternative to oil and its derivatives, in addition to ridding the environment of this dangerous waste as mentioned above through the application of the thermal decomposition process by breaking the plastic apart from oxygen in the presence of high temperature and auxiliary factors to produce a quantity of fuel The liquid, which can be used as an alternative to petroleum products (diesel fuel, auto gasoline, white oil), and the research aims to prepare an aid for this purpose and study the process of reactivating it and using it again.

The seminar was attended by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Jamal Maneh Ali Al-Rubaie and a group of the department's faculty members.
