The UOT President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban participated a membership and supervision of M.Sc. Discussion Committee for the student (Iman Hussein) at Materials Eng. Dep. (An Ecofriendly MXene (Ti3AlC2) Modified ZnO Heterostructured Nanophotocatalyst For Rapid Removal Real Pharmaceuticals Wastewater Under Simulated Solar Light).
The thesis included the use of MXene to improve the zinc oxide nanomaterial and to manufacture a heterogeneous photocatalyst for the photodegradation of photochemically harmful pharmaceuticals by simulating sunlight. MXene was hydrolyzed from the MAX phase using ammonium hydrogen difluoride as a mxene titanium dioxide-forming agent, followed by chemical synthesis of the zinc oxide-titanium dioxide-MXene photocatalyst. X-ray diffraction, infrared, ultraviolet, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and BET were used to analyze the prepared photocatalysts.
The results showed that zinc oxide-titanium dioxide-MXene had an excellent performance in removing ceftriaxone sodium and carbamazepine, with an estimated efficiency of 99.4% and 99.6%.
