Laser Engineering Department Grant MSC

Laser and Optoelectronics engineering department at University of Technology grant MSC to the student Hiyam Saad for her thesis "Modeling and Simulation of Bio-Sensor Based on Photonic Crystal Fiber".

The researcher studied the effect of injection and immersing the optical fiber with different liquids using the finite elements-liquids methods.

In this thesis, HC-800 PCFs were injected with different fluids (water, human blood plasma, human liver tissue, human colonic tissue blood and pentanol.

Practically, gold nanoparticles (NPs) were deposited on HC-PCF to enhance sensitivity by utilizing the surface plasmon resonance principle, where the PCF was first prepared by skimming a layer of clad and then depositing gold particles on the skimmed area of the fibers PCF. Gold nanoparticles were prepared using pulsed laser ablation methodology of AFM. The average size of NPs appeared around 30nm and 44nm at 532 nm and 1064nm respectively.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.Raed Abdul-Wahab and the membership Asst.Prof.Dr.Mohammed Mojbal, Lect.Dr.Shams Basil, Asst.Prof.Dr.Mokarram Abdul-Motalb from UOT as supervisor, Asst.Prof.Dr.Raed Khalid from Al-Farahidi University, Asst.Prof.Dr.Anwar Abdul-Sattar from Al-Nahreen University as a scientific reviewer and Asst.Prof.Dr.Abdulah Khatheer Abbas from UOT as a linguistic reviewer.
