MSc discussion in Computer Science

MSc thesis in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology discussed improving an adaptive security architecture using a modified AES encryption method.

Student Hassan Rahma Zagy suggested an approach to building security on the e-learning system that contributes to providing high protection for the e-learning system by protecting the system layers (the outer layer) using an adaptive security architecture that depends on its mechanism of pattern recognition using facial recognition techniques to enhance the credibility of authorized persons.

The proposed system aims to provide a safe environment for the e-learning system from various risks of attackers and intruders through the first strategy using modified encryption algorithms that protect the internal layer to protect data within the system. Where the algorithm was improved by modifying the function using a new method for generating the keys used in each session of the algorithm, as the new approach includes many functions to produce the keys for the algorithm.

The second strategy is to use an adaptive security architecture to protect the outer layer of a system. The conditions for this architecture are provided by technology (Face recognition) by using (FaceSDK) and depends on the match rate between the real-time image and the stored image through which the adaptive mode of rejection or acceptance of the user is taken and also the choice of the encoding method voluntarily for the system based on the matching rate between The two pictures.

The researcher found an adaptive environment for the e-learning system capable of enhancing the reliability of the system by applying adaptive security architectural conditions using Face-SDK technology that is efficient and does not care about lighting conditions, as well as the ability to detect facial features while wearing (face mask).

The proposed e-learning system (Case Study) achieves high protection as it includes two algorithms from the improved encryption algorithms, and after the user passes the external layer of security represented by the adaptive security structure and depending on the match rate that meets the user’s traffic, the system automatically chooses the appropriate method of encryption.
