Materials engineering department at university of technology granted MSC to the student Gofran Jasim for her thesis "Improving the Performance of valve Trays used in crude Oil Distillation Tower"
The thesis includes using the thermal flame spraying technology to deposit NICrALY coating reinforced with different weight ratios of molybdenum onto stainless steel.
The study aimed at improving the efficiency of valve trays in crude distillation towers and protect them from fouling and erosion corrosion.
The researcher in her study prove the efficiency of the coating layer in resisting fouling and erosion corrosion through tests (tests of erosion corrosion, hardness, contact angle) in addition to the diagnostic tests for the microstructure, x-ray tests and scanning the electronic microscope test.
The discussion committee was chaired by Asst.Prof.Dr.Fadhil Abbas and the membership of Asst.Prof.Dr.Abdul-Rahman Najim and Lect.Dr.Mohanned Naja, Prof.Dr.Ahmed Al-Gabban and Asst.Prof.Dr.Hussein Yousif as supervisors, Asst.Prof.Dr.Ayad Murad from AL-Nahrain University – Collage of Engineering as scientific reviser and Asst.Prof.Dr.Sameer Ali as a linguistic reviser.
