Researcher from ERC participates in a workshop of the Committee on biological hazards in the Republic of Seychelles

      Dr. Azhar Mahmoud Haleem from ERC participated in the 5th workshop for the National Biorisk Management Committee (NBMC), organized by the Sandia National Laboratories, the International Section of the Department of biological threats in collaboration with the National Supervisory Authority, for the period from 17 - 20th May 2015 in Victoria, the capital of the Republic of Seychelles. The workshop was attended by representatives of the Iraqi Ministries; Health and the Environment, Agriculture, Trade, Water resources, Finance, Interior, Planning, Foreign affairs and National Supervisory Board, the Council of Ministers of the workshop. The workshop sessions chaired by Dr. Hassan Baqir Al-Hadi, Director General of Public Health at the Iraqi Ministry of Health. The workshop included the two main axes each one group of secondary axes which were discussed during the days of the workshop, as shown in the below:

 

1.        Revision of the Main Committee and sub-committees, which included the completion of the rules of procedure of the Commission on biological risk management; completing the draft policy and policy statement; the completion of the national list of the causes of pathological two sections (A) and (B) a list of import and export and a list of nurses; prepare a list of dual-use equipment; preparation safety and biosecurity law. In addition, the time intervals for obtaining approvals fundamentalism paragraphs mentioned above.

 

2.        Discussions with international experts, about the introduction in Orientation to Biorisk Management; the importance of establishing a comprehensive system for managing biological risks; bioethics; introduction to dual use: and the international standard for unifying standards CWA15793.

       Dr. Azhar Mahmood Halim has made a presentation entitled "A working paper of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research", highlighted the relationship between the work of the ministry and the functions of the National Committee for the Management of Biological Hazards as well as what has been approved by the Committee outputs within the ministry's work.
