The department of Materials Engineering was established with a level of (college) at the University of Technology in 1999 by well-known professors. The establishment came in response to the growing demand for this specialization inside and outside Iraq. The space occupied by the department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology was affects the scientific sectors inside and outside Iraq.
Our graduated Engineers have occupied an important place and effective location in the public and private sectors and has become possible to say that, the materials engineer has become a title cannot be sidestepped in production processes starting from material selection to manufacturing and then to develop various treatments; thermal as well as surface.
We have exceeded the character of the materials engineer including attributes of the fundamentals and techniques he had learned in his undergraduate years to be a pioneer in the development of novel materials and enters the world of nanotechnology and deal with advanced materials engineering. The qualifications of our department graduates enabled them to enter an engineering failure analysis in all engineering materials that used in mechanical and electrical systems and relying so to the latest theories in failure analysis and treatment.
Lastly, I have to remember that our department is composed of three branches of engineering is a branch of Industrial Materials Engineering and Branch of ceramics and building materials Engineering, the branch of polymer engineering which began their work from the year 2013-2014.
