The Establishment of Department: |

The materials engineering department (equivalent to college)
founded in the University of Technology in 1999/2000 and the first B.Sc. group
was graduated in 2002/2003. The evening studies in the department had started in
2000/2001.
Materials Engineering Department is the fourth department of its kind in the
country, where the first materials engineering department was founded in
engineering college / Babylon University in 1993/1994 and followed by the
materials engineering department in engineering college / Mustansirya University
in 1998/1999 then the Engineering college / Basrah University in 1999/2000.
Postgraduate studies have been founded in this department in 2002/2003 in the
specialty of materials engineering.
The curriculums of the department have been revised in 2002/2003 – 2004/2005
where new curriculums have been applied through the next years. The innovation
of curriculums have been depending on dignified European, Americans, Dutch
universities guides, due to the continuous need to develop the curriculums and
to accompany the fast development in this field.

Department - Vision, Mission and Goals |
Vision:
In this broad competence the Department of Materials Engineering is to be a
pioneer and innovator in the field of thoughtful scientific knowledge is the
most significant priority. Our vision is to contribute towards the basic
understanding required to release the effort needed for the investigation and
analysis in the field of materials science and engineering. We are aiming to be
a vibrant and supportive community in this field enabling advanced technologies
to provide some leaderships through education and research.
Mission:
The mission of material engineering department is to provide an educational
engineering with high specific quality, high level researches in material field
and support the industries in country. Beside, providing an engineering staffs
with the specialization of material engineering whom able to select material,
and use them in design for different applications which can be done by
experiment and convoy the global development in materials engineering.
Program
Educational Objectives (PEOs):
Objective#1: Graduate elite engineers have ability to understand the
relationship between structure, properties, applications and performance of
engineering materials to develop the industry in country.
Objective#2: Graduate engineers able to create suitable solutions for
engineering problems related with contemporary issues in different applied and
industrial fields through working in multidisciplinary teams to solve these
problems.
Objective#3: Graduate engineers with good skills to do analysis and
characterization for different engineering materials by using recent devices and
techniques.
