In this
paper, preparation and compare the mechanical properties of
three groups ofternary polymer blends consisting of polyvinyl
chloride with polypropylene (PVC-PP) as base polymer blend and
with addition of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or
ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM) to the base polymer blend
(PVC-PP-ABS) and (PVC-PP-EPDM). By using a twin-screw extruder,
three weight percentages of PP (5, 10 and 15%) and (1% wt) of
ABS or EPDM were used to prepare the polymer blends.
Experimental investigation was carried out for analyzing some
mechanical properties like tensile strength, flexural strength
andhardnessand FTIR and morphology for the prepared samples. The
results show that the polymer blend (PVC-PP-EPDM) get higher
values of fracture strength, young´s modulus and flexible
modulus, these values it was reached to 34.25 MPa,6.3 MPa and
2.5MPa respectively whereas the polymer blend (PVC-PP-ABS) get
higher values in flexural strength, maximum shear stress and
hardness, these values it was reached to 78 MPa, 2.38MPa and
72.66 respectively and for the elongation characteristic was
increased after the addition of EPDM and decreased with addition
of ABS. All the results are compared with the base polymer blend
(PVC-PP). |
