it is necessary to everyone who working in education field
should be familiar with using of smart blackboards because of
their educational values and their features.
Smart blackboard
defined as a special type of paintings or sensitive interactive
whiteboards which are dealt with it by touching or by using a
special electronic pens as they are used to display all the
applications that available on the computer screen and can also
be defined as a display screen (panel), electronic and delicate
white, which can be handled with by using the sense of touch
(finger or digital ink pens or any marking). It is also

Mass and heat transfer analyses of
water desalination using membrane distillation
under the supervision of Prof. Dr.
Qusay Fadel Ibrahim and assistant Professor Dr. Salah Salman
Ibrahim on Al-Khwarizmi Hall and with the presence of the head
of Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Thamer Jassim
Muhammad and the scientific aide, Professor Dr. Qusay Fadel and
the administrative aide, assistant professor Zaydoon Mohsen and
also both heads of the branches as well as a number of academic
staff and students on Wednesday, 25/03/2015.
Membrane distillation (MD) is a
relatively new process for desalination that is being
investigated worldwide as a low cost, Energy saving alternative
to conventional separation process such as distillation and
reverse osmosis (RO). The aim of the study is desalination of
saline water (sea water and/or brackish water) with different
salt concentrations more than the sea water level using new
technique "membrane distillation". The advantage of this method
is providing highly removal efficiency of salts (theoretically,
100% salt rejection). The performance of membranes using air gap
membrane distillation process unit will be studied and also
study the main effective parameters (feed temperature, flow
rate, concentration) on the permeate flux across the membrane.
The study will be included the analysis of heat and mass
transfer of air gap membrane distillation.

and Dr.Farh Talib. The discussion was held on Khwarizmi
court on 19/2/2015.
Catalyst Wet Air Oxidation (CWAO)
and Hydrogen Peroxide Promoted Catalytic Wet Air Oxidation
(PP-CWAO) of phenol in aqueous phase are studied experimentally
and theoretically in this work using a trickle bed reactor
operating in both steady state and periodic operation; liquid
flow and hybrid modulation. The effect of key parameters that
influence on the performance of trickle bed reactor (TBR)
for CWAO and PP-CWAO is studied in a steady-state operation to
provide a basis for comparison with periodic experiments and
kinetic measurements in TBR under constant operating pressure
(0.1 MPa) In periodic operation, the effect of cyclic parameters
is investigated in a broader range ofcycle period (5-180 sec)
and split (0.2, 0.5 and 0.7) for both liquid flow and hybrid
modulation under some of the conditions chosen on the basis of
the steady state results for PP-CWAO.

Advanced Oxidative Desulfurization of Fuel Oil
The
supervisors are Prof.
Neran Khalil and
Dr.Walaa Abdul-Hadi.The discussion was held on Khwarizmi
court on 15/2/2015.
Due to the dramatic environmental
impact of sulfur emissions associated with the exhaust of
engines, sulfur content specification for diesel fuels became
more and more stringent worldwide. The present work focuses on
benefiting from integrating an ultrasound assisted oxidative
desulfurization process (UAODS) with the conventional HDS
process to produce ultra-low sulfur fuels (<15 ppm). The
proposed method involves a batch ultrasound-assisted oxidative
desulfurization process to desulfurize a previously hydrotreated
diesel containing 480 ppm sulfur. The oxidizing system used was
H2O2/CH3COOH with FeSO4 being used as a catalyst.

Numerical Solution
to Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Mixing of Multiphase Flow
system
The supervisors are Prof.
Thamer Jasim Mohammed
and Prof. Jalal Mohamed Jalel. The discussion was held on
Khwarizmi court on 20/1/2015.
This work present
a numerical solution of the hydrodynamic characteristics of
mixing multi-phase flow using CFD "(Computational Fluid
Dynamics)" by Euler –Lagrange approach using the programming
language Fortran90. Moreover, applying of these solutions on the
chemical industrial units and comparing the results of numerical
solution with experimental results. This technical study was to
find a numerical solution of three cases that are :-
1. The numerical
simulation of single bubble.
2. The numerical
simulation of the two bubbles.
3. The numerical
simulation of more complex system, which consists of two phases
(gas and liquid) in a Membrane Bioreactor.
In the first
case, a bubble of air was simulated in water where the water
response has been studied .The movement of the bubble process
was represented and compared with the results available for the
same case and the results were convincing and acceptable.
In the second
case, the simulation of the movement of adjacent two air bubbles
in a fluid consists of water where the fluid response to the
movement of these bubbles was studied and the effect of the two
bubbles on the water and on each other. The coalescence model
have been studied between the bubbles when there are conditions
for this case and the results were compared with the results
available to such a situation and it was good and convincing as
well.
In the third
case, the study was more complicated and more detailed. A
simulation of an airlift bioreactor with a vertical plate has
been carried out. Where the superficial gas velocity and reactor
geometry were varied according to the experimental work and
their effect on the simulation was studied briefly. As well as
bubbles distribution, void fraction, effective forces and drag
coefficient are studied. The results show that the most
influential forces on the system is the drag force. The method
which is used in these solutions is Euler- Lagrange and
particle in cell (PIC) method which was modified so that
it gives more accuracy and more representation to the reality of
the reactor and the result of this modification on overall
results were convincing and good

Zaidoon Muhsen Shakoor .The discussion was held on
Khwarizmi court on 15/1/2015.
The modeling of plate heat
exchanger was studied experimentally and theoretically for the
plate heat exchanger. The results showed that the plate heat
exchanger is a first order lead and second order over damped lag
with a significant delay time. The temperature control was
applied to the plate heat exchanger using conventional P, PI and
PID controllers with tuning methods to find the best values of
control parameters. The results show that the PID controller
gave better control than other controllers and GA technique is
the best method.

Effect of
Particle and Floc Size on Water Treatment by Physico -
Chemical Process for River Water
The supervisors are Prof.
Thamer Jasim Mohammed.The discussion
was held on Khwarizmi court on 13/1/2015.
This work
includes the study of the effect of particle size and floc size
formed on the process of coagulation - flocculation by the
addition of coagulants. Experiments were conducted using a
sample of natural water which was taken from Tigris River,
within the level of (55) NTU turbidity. Jar-test was used to
determine the optimal conditions for the removal of turbidity
through coagulation – flocculation and sedimentation. Several
experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of
flocculation time 1, 6 and 20 min, coagulants dose and camp No.
on the residual turbidity or removal efficiency ,floc size or
floc formed that have greater Intensity, floc strength and
recovery factor, largest volume, greater surface area and the
most number and properties of electrical particle such as (zeta
potential ,mobility , frequency) . The floc growth, breakage
floc size and regrowth of different type of coagulant were
investigated by a laser diffraction particle sizing device (zeta
plus) .The coagulants used were alum, FeCl3, polyelectrolyte
(PE), alone or in combination of them. The results were showed
that zeta potential has effect on the quality of water more than
residual turbidity after treatment. And the zeta potential
related with the type and dose of coagulants, with flocculation
time and with speed mixer.
