The postgraduate studies in the chemical engineering department was started in 1979, for the degree of Master of Science in unit operations. The study involves a one year theoretical courses followed by a second year in which the student prepare a thesis.

     Master of Science in oil and petrochemicals and Master of Science in engineering materials were then added in the department.

     Doctor of Philosophy study was started in the year 1987. The study involves a one year theoretical study for one year, followed by a two years practical study to prepare a thesis in one of the chemical engineering fields.

     To be in line with scientific development in latest modern science, a Master study was opened in biochemical engineering. In 2001, a one year Higher Diploma study in oil and gas refining engineering was started. A higher Diploma study in industrial pollution engineering was added in the study year 2002-2003. The program aims to provide graduates with advanced knowledge in the basic subjects of chemical engineering and preparing specialized personal in addition to improving scientific and applied research in various chemical engineering fields. The postgraduate studies in the department are distinguished by following a policy of scientific cooperation and co-supervision with pioneer researchers from ministries of Industry, Oil, Science and Technology, and Electricity to transfer science, knowledge, and experience from the university to fields of application and vice versa.
