Characteristics and effectiveness of ceramic filters made of local raw materials for drinking water treatment

الخلاصة:

This study aimed at producing ceramic water filter discs made of different ratios of red clay and sawdust as an additive under different production conditions and to test their physical properties. Based on these test results, some ceramic filter discs were selected as having the best compatibility between their hydraulic and the mechanical properties. Furthermore, the efficiency of the selected ceramic filter discs was tested by using a water filtration system that was designed and constructed for this purpose. This system is used to rotate ceramic filters discs. The basic idea behind rotating the filter discs is to reduce or minimize the rejected materials accumulated on the filters surfaces by generating shear force and turbulence.
