Master Degree inTechnology Discusses the Metals Restoration OutOf Used Batteries

The Student AliMoufaq at the Department of Production Engineering and Metallurgyhas been granted M.Sc.degree forhis thesis.
The thesis discussed using a combination of mechanical separation, solvent redox and chemical deposition to restore cobalt and lithium out of consumed lithium-ion batteries. This research shows the procedure that followed in this experiment by dismantling batteries and separating of its different components ,the second step is to grind cathode and anode chips and Sifting them to separate copper and aluminum out of the powder of consumed battery .
The melting powder separated from a mixture of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide to dissolve cobalt and lithium .The effect of the concentration of sulfuric acid, timing of solution, the degree of solution temperature, hydrogen peroxide concentration, the ratio of solid to liquid on the efficiency of cobalt and lithium solution has been studied. The Taguchi method followedin theseexperiments to determine the test conditions, analyzing the results and specify thesolution optimum process conditions.
