A thesis in the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Technology discuss proactive computing strategies for a navigation system build on the smart phone - a wireless radio chips for the visually impaired and blind for the student Iyad Esho Korial.
The researcher showed that the visually impaired and blind people have a different and important daily needs include moving from one place to another. It is worked on two basic principles in this research in the indoor environment: First, determine the location, to determine the visually impaired and blind site. Secondly, an algorithm to find a path, to determine the path between two sites for the visually impaired and blind.
He used at the first principle Wi-Fi method, but the results were not accurate. So it has been another way used based on radio frequency identification and its results were accurate and is now working method. In the second principle: The researcher used the algorithm to find a path (A *) to resolve the problems facing the visually impaired and blind people, the aim is to guide them from required in to desired location in an indoor environment with or without obstacles, and to help the visually impaired and blind depending on the two above principles it has been designed the following: Albany program, by using the C sharp language for simulation purposes by building a virtual environment. And application a smart Mobile, using the Java language to link it with the smart stick which is designed to lead them in the living environment.
To solve the problem that they face to identify them the near appliances such as TV, refrigerator ... etc., it has been designed a good install for the visually impaired and blind using the Beacon and smart phone. The goal is to help them to know the appliances location in the environment that they live in.
Three tests are conducted in a real environment and have found that the way of the Beacon and smartphone was valid and reliable to help them to identify the devices location which are closest to them in the indoor environment. This work is accomplished by using a computer (ASUS) and a Mobile Galaxy S6.
