Building and construction Engineering Department at the University of
Technology granted master's degree(MSC) in Construction Project
Management Engineering Science with grade (very good) for the student
Dhuha Samir Mohsen for her thesis entitled:
"The use of artificial neural networks model in the completion of
construction projects in Iraq” in the discussion that was held at the
Hall of Graduate Studies in the Department of Building and Construction
Engineering.
The discussion committee consists of Prof. Dr. Shaker Saleh Ahmed as a
head and Assistant Prof. Dr. Raed Salim (the two are from the Department
of Building and Construction Engineering at the University of
Technology) and Dr. Mohammed Hashim Majid/ Deputy Minister of Industry
and Minerals Ministry as a member and Assistant Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abd
Mohammed from the Department of Building and Construction Engineering at
the University of Technology and Assistant Prof. Dr. Faeq Mohammed from
the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Al-Nahrin (as
supervisors) and Assistant Prof. Dr. Hamed Khalifa Brisam from the
Engineering Affairs at the University of Baghdad (as a scientific
supervisor) and Assistant Prof. Dr. Asmaa Samer Ibrahim from College of
Engineering at the University of Al-Nahrin (as a linguistic supervisor).
The researcher has shown that the most important obstacles facing the
construction projects are not finishing these projects on time and
within the allocated budget. This happens due to a variety of reasons,
the most important one is project planning method and following them
technically , temporally and financially .
The researcher mentioned that the main objective of this thesis is to
provide a Management System of Earning Value as an effective tool to
follow-up projects cause it connects between the actual achievement of
planned works within the project in the past period and the cost which
has been spend, in comparison with the periodical and financial project
plan . This goal was achieved through a case study "the project of
implementation of the second corridor of the highway project linked
between Nasiriyah - Rifai,
It is one of the infrastructure projects in Iraq. The purpose of case
study that has been taken within this thesis is expecting the status of
the project in terms of period and cost factors by calculating the
acquired value factors "deviation index scheduling, and cost index
deviation " . The " Microsoft Project 2013 "program was used for this
purpose
The researcher was able to monitor the project status in two different
periods of time from the planned period for the project which was "14"
months, when comparing the real completion percentages with the planned
completion percentages, as well as comparing the real cost with the
planned cost. It was concluded that the project is progressing perfectly
after "7.14" months. This means that the project is progressing as
planned in terms of cost and time. The second case was a cost index for
the project which indicates that the true cost was less than what is
planned to, when carrying out the monitoring process after t "7.17"
months, while the time index was referring to the progress of the
project for the planned duration at this time.
The research included a main objective, i.e. Building mathematical
models by the use of smart artificial neural networks to predict
acquired value indicators "Scheduling index, the cost index, and the
index of the expected budget for completion ." To achieve this goal it
was necessary to identify the affecting factors on the performance of
the infrastructure projects, "Roads", it is the planned value ,acquired
value and the real cost. "
